Abstract
The testis, which is enveloped by a thick connective tissue covering, the tunica albuginea, is made up of the seminiferous tubules and the intertubular tissue. Considerable evidence indicates that these two areas, or compartments, are closely linked in enabling the testis to fulfill its dual functions of spermatogenesis and testosterone production. The testis is incompletely subdivided into lobules by connective tissue septa that pass from the tunica albuginea to the posteriorly placed mediastinum testis, wherein lies the rete testis. This anastomotic system of ducts connects the seminiferous tubules to the ductuli efferentes, which togrther constitute the head of the epididymis.
